Tourists

Our plan was to spend an hour or so browsing through Eastern Market {for the Mrs.} and then usher in Oktoberfest at a beer garden in NE {for the Mr.}. Somehow, between here and there, we ended up on a tour of the Capitol.

Newlywed Chronicles.... by Mr. Markos

There's so many great things they tell you before you get married, like waking up next to the person you love, sharing everything together, and always having someone there.

What they don't tell you about are the little adjustments that take some serious getting used to. They don't tell you about the foot long hairs you'll find in your lunch at work, even though you packed your own lunch. You sit there dumbfounded as you wonder how they found their way in there. They don't tell you about someone else pulling the covers off of you during the night, or in some cases, trying to cover you by laying on top of you. And they don't tell you that everything you own will somehow be rearranged in the coming days. I had long accepted the fact that the bachelor furniture had to go, but simply could not have known that the plates "look much better on the right side of the cabinet", or that "the towels should really be one shelf higher". Ah, marriage is truly bliss.

Thus far, marriage has really been a learning experience for us. It's about relearning things about the other person that you thought you already knew. It's about learning their "isms" that make them who they are. And it's about remembering that no argument is really worth it, since one week from now it will be forgotten. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Welcome

Welcome to our blog! This is a chronicle of our life as newlyweds, and likely beyond. We also hope that this little blog will be a means to share bits and pieces of our lives with our families and friends {most who do not live near}. We've been married just a little over two weeks. Following a week lounging by the beach in Costa Rica, we packed my car full and, after two full days on the road, put over 1,000 miles behind us {good-bye Texas!}. We are continuing to settle into our new "home" in Alexandria, Virginia -- and figuring out that combining two people's things is not quite so easy!
